Day Tramp ~ Heaphy Hut

Take a breathtaking flight with Helicopter Charter Karamea to the Heaphy Hut located on the Heaphy Track in the Kahurangi National Park. The Heaphy Track encompasses expansive tussock downs, lush forests, Nikau palms and the roaring seas of the West Coast. The one day walk from the Heaphy hut is a relaxed, tranquil hike which will take you approximately 4-5 hours. Karamea Helicopters will transport you there for an enjoyable day walking New Zealand's scenic West Coast.

4 Day Tramp ~ Heaphy Track Transfers

The Heaphy Track is one of New Zealand's great walks and is suitable for hikers of all ages. It is 82 km long, crossing a range of landscapes in a small part of Kahurangi National Park. Tussock covered downs, river flats, lush forest and the scenic West Coast, rugged in beauty and diverse in nature. The Nikau groves that tower the last part of the Heaphy Track at the Karamea Side make it especially beautiful.

The distances between the huts vary from 8 -16 kms and most huts accommodate 20-30 trampers. The track takes about 4 days and 3 nights for the average tramper. Hut tickets must be purchased before you start the track and can be purchased from any DoC office or Information Centre.

For those interested in walking the length of the Heaphy Track, Helicopter Charter Karamea provides Heaphy Track transfers. A helicopter flight from Karamea to the northern end of the Heaphy Track takes a mere 20 minutes. Sure beats 460km of windy road by bus! Helicopter Charter Karamea can also deliver your packs to the first hut of your walk, which means you can enjoy some creature comforts without having to carry them.

Wangapeka Track ~ Private Heli-Shuttle Transfers

For a more demanding hike, fly to the Wanganui Saddle on the Wangapeka Track. This walk includes alpine and sub-alpine areas where you will be amongst lush podacarp beech forests. This is a good 6 - 7 hour walk mainly downhill and only for the experienced hiker.

For an easier walk you can fly to the Belltown Hut and experience the beautiful Wangapeka Valley and Little Wanganui River; this takes approximately 3-4 hours.

Adams Flat ~ Scenic Flight and Walk

After a scenic flight over the beautiful Oparara Basin land at the historic Adams Flat Hut where you will be transported back into time. An area that was once a struggling community eacking out a living in the depression days mining gold. Find Adams grave and the historic restored hut. A leisurely walk back out to the mouth of the Fenian.

The Adams Flat hike takes approximately 2 hours.
